Building a Business around your Natural Health Career

It’s been a year since we last caught up with Adelaide Poschelk. Her career – and business – have thrived since earning her Bachelor of Health Science from Endeavour College of Natural Health.

Her brand, Begin Again, has expanded, taking over a dedicated space in Currumbin Waters.

“When I started my business, I rented a room in a shared office space, which was such a great way to meet and connect with other practitioners.

“Pretty much a year to the day, Brooke from Goodkind Naturopathy and I opened a shared office space in a beautiful industrial hub, full of other like-minded business’. In our third room, we also have Beck from Lotus Counselling.”

The location serves a dual purpose – space for consultations and a dispensary where Adelaide can fill orders from her new online store. That inventory also includes Begin Again products – two powdered supplements, Detox and Replenish, which Adelaide developed to support clients’ detoxification pathways.

“I always say, ‘If your detoxification pathways aren’t functioning optimally, then neither are you.’ Every day, we are burdened with chemicals from our environment, occupation, clothes, food, water, cosmetics and so on. This accumulates, contributing to fatigue, acne, bloating, irregular bowel motions and hormonal concerns.”

The products are formulated to be more accessible to more people – anyone can buy them without a prescription.

“You can use them together to create a simple six-week cleanse or singularly based on personal preference.”

Freedom, flexibility and doing what you love

Adelaide says setting up in business has come with a few challenges.

“Working for yourself can be really lonely – you don’t always have a team to bounce ideas. Self-doubt can creep in, and managing so many different things at once can be a challenge, too. But honestly, I absolutely love working for myself. The freedom and flexibility are like nothing else.”

Starting a natural health career in your own business – 3 tips from Adelaide

Watching Adelaide turn her naturopathy course into a career in natural health has been inspiring – and she’s learned a few things that could help other aspiring naturopaths do the same.

  1. Do what works for you. “It’s really easy to compare yourself with others, which won’t get you far. Find your own lane and stick to it.”

  2. Hire a graphic designer. “Professional branding doesn’t just look nice; it helps people trust you and the experience you offer.”

  3. Create industry relationships. “You’ll never know everything, so it’s great to learn from others and share your experiences to help someone else.”

Adelaide’s 5 self-care essentials

While the busyness of business fills a lot of her time, Adelaide tries to follow her own advice – slow down and take time for yourself.

“Outside of work, I have been doing pottery and sewing, which have been so therapeutic. I’m feeling like a bit of a grandma, but hey, I’m enjoying it!”

She also recommends these five simple steps to boost physical and mental health:

  1. Create strict switch-off times. “I'm still working on this! But with more boundaries and less chaos, your nervous system will love you.”

  2. Move your body. “Do what works for you – no need for high-intensity workouts if they don’t resonate with where you are right now.”

  3. Filter your water. “If you didn’t see the article the other day about tap water in Australia likely containing carcinogenic chemicals with no safe level of exposure, it’s time to Google. My go-to water filters are Alkaway, Kyn & Folk and for the shower, Hydrogen Health.”

  4. Practice Yin Yoga. “Is there anything better than lying on the floor listening to a guided meditation? I don’t think so. It’s so relaxing and great for both physical and mental well-being.”

  5. Get out into nature. “Our bodies crave and need this. Lie on the beach and read a book or go for a walk to soak up the Vitamin D – so important for mood, hormones and immune function.”

What’s next for Begin Again?

The brand’s range is set to expand again, with another new product already in development. Adelaide had the idea for it while studying towards her health science degree.

“The clinic block was such a great environment to explore and learn about different products and opportunities as a naturopath.”

Now, out in the world, Adelaide says she can’t imagine doing anything else.

“I’m grateful to be able to do something I love so much every day.”
