Understanding Course Structure

On this page

It is important to read through your course structure so you know what lies ahead and can plan accordingly. The course structure provides you with important information that you are required to know. This includes:

Sequence of subjects

It is important that you follow the subjects on offer within each teaching period (Semester) before progressing to the next. This will help you when you come to re-enrol or are planning your study ahead of time.

Pre-requisities

A pre-requisite subject is a subject that is required for underpinning knowledge before moving to the next subject. Subjects that are pre-requisites have knowledge that is essential for you to know and will be useful in the next subject. Studying a subject without the pre-requisite information will disadvantage you and may impact adversely on your grade.

Equivalent full time study load (EFTSL)

Your EFTSL is important when you are planning full time study. A full time study load equals a total of 1 for a standard academic year. By ensuring that your subjects add up to a total of 1 for an academic year you will be able to complete your course in the minimum time required provided you do not fail any subjects.

Credit points

A credit point is a unit of College credit. At Endeavour we have subjects worth 2, 4, 6 or 8 credit points or CPs. Two points of credit are earned by a minimum of 3 contact (face to face) hours’ attendance in lectures, workshops, practical or clinic and self-paced learning or tutorial activities. The time spent in self-paced learning is the average required however some students find it necessary to devote more time to preparation. A 4-credit point subject consists of 6 hours a week of attendance in lectures, workshops, practical or clinic and self-paced learning or tutorial activities. A 6-credit point subject is therefore 9 hours a week of attendance in lectures, workshops, practical or clinic and self-paced learning or tutorial activities.

Contact hours

Number of hours in contact time does not include extra time for study or assessment work.
