Jason is a 26 year old who has recently been made redundant as an IT contractor. Instead of feeling down, he is looks at this as a fantastic opportunity to change careers to something more rewarding and working with people. Since he was a young athlete who had many injuries, he has always wanted to be a Massage Therapist.
Jason has enrolled into the Diploma of Remedial Massage and although he needs to undertake most of his practical studies on campus, many of his anatomy subjects can be undertaken online.
Jason's timetable for first semester contains a mix of on campus and online subjects, freeing up some his time during the day to work a part time job while he completes his studies.
Jason starts his day reading through emails which have come through overnight. He replies to some forum posts, and answers an email from his tutor regarding preparation for the first assignment due in 3 weeks. Then he’s off to his Endeavour College campus, where he has a lecture/tutorial and a clinical session for one of his on campus practical subjects. During the on campus lecture, his lecturer makes use of some interactive web-based learning resources which he can also access from home in his own time. He can also continue the discussions from the classroom with his on campus mates via the online discussion forum set up for that subject and before next lecture; he has to complete an online quiz, which the answers of which will be discussed in class.
Back home, Jason revisits one of the interactive sites referred to in today's lecture, and continues some assignment work for his online subject. When he finishes his assignment for this class, he uploads the digital version to his tutor via the learning management system, where it is downloaded, marked by his tutor, and then uploaded with its grade back into the system. Jason receives an email automatically to say it is available for his review.
Jason's online subject requires he sits an on campus examination at the end of the 13 week period, so Jason nominates for this exam online and turns up on campus at the designated time to complete the exam.
