Short Description:

This subject provides the foundational underpinning of the history of complementary medicine, the evolution of homeopathy and its fundamental laws and principles. Students critically evaluate the homeopathic concepts of health and disease, homeopathic proving, constitution, diathesis and miasms. The foundation in case taking and case analysis using simple repertorial matrices is applied to the study of acute first-aid clinical situations and to recognise the need for referral in chronic/constitutional treatment.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Analyse and evaluate the underlying laws and principles that govern the practice of homeopathy.
  2. Critically discuss the homeopathic perspective of health and disease including the concept of miasm.
  3. Apply foundational case taking and case analysis skills for an acute first aid homeopathic prescription.
  4. Analyse and develop a homeopathic treatment plan in an acute first aid situation.
  5. Interpret basic reaction of the vital force within the scope of acute first aid prescribing.
  6. Critically evaluate the treatment strategy applied in an acute situation and organise the referral for a chronic/constitutional prescription.

Assessment:

  1. Online summative quizzes x2, Weeks 7 & 11. 60%.
  2. Case Studies x2. Week 13. 40%.
