Short Description

This subject provides the foundational underpinning knowledge that is necessary for medical health practice in an integrative health system. Students initially are introduced to the foundational knowledge, skills and judgments necessary to apply basic research approaches within the exploration, analysis and understanding of a wide variety of different medical modalities. Students will be required to evaluate through critical discussion the basic (social, cultural and historical) contexts and applications of a wide variety of different health based disciplines

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Analyse and evaluate current evidence of medical practice principles, underlying philosophies and general treatment outcomes as they apply to a variety of medical practice modalities.
  2. Critically evaluate the evolving role of medical practice throughout history and compare with current evidence of emerging paradigms of health within the 21st century.
  3. Analyse and evaluate empirical and recently published evidence based medicine research validating their use within a wide range of medical practice.
  4. Apply foundational skills in Evidence Based Practice (e.g. levels of evidence, biostatistics, epidemiology) when analysing medical practice modalities.
