About the HREC
The Endeavour HREC assesses applications from Endeavour College of Natural Health affiliated researchers who wish to conduct CAM (Complementary and Alternative Therapies) research involving humans. The Endeavour HREC does not charge a fee to these affiliated researchers.
All applications are assessed in accordance with the NHMRC’s National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans and Values and Ethics - Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research. Researchers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these documents.
Decisions are made by considering the proposal in relation to the guidelines outlined in these documents, and by drawing on the knowledge of committee members, who are selected according to the requirements for composition outlines in (NS 5.1.30) The committee may elect to consult other external experts if required.

Application Process
A submission needs to successfully pass through the Endeavour Research Committee before it proceeds to the HREC.
Application Form
The Endeavour HREC accepts the NEAF (National Ethics Application Form) which researchers can complete online at https://www.neaf.gov.au/. You will need to register to complete the form – registration is free and there are help guides on the site to assist you in setting up and navigating through the form.

Human Research Ethics Committee
Once you have obtained written approval from the Endeavour Research Committee, please forward a copy of the approval notice together with the completed HREC application form. The committee requires:
- 1x Written copy of approval notice
- 1x Printed and signed copy of the completed HREC application form
- 1x Electronic version of the completed application form.

Once approved, all projects which are clinical trials are required to be registered on the Australian Clinical Trials Register.The ACTR is a national online register of clinical trials covering a diversity of areas including preventative medicine, pharmaceuticals, rehabilitation strategies and CAM therapies. They should be registered before the recruitment of the first participant. An example of the kinds of information requested can be found here
There are some conditions of approval which are automatically added to your application, such as an obligation to advise the HREC of certain events or changes in protocol (see under “When do I need to contact the HREC”).
When do I need to contact the HREC?
Application
Complete the NEAF form and submit to the Research Committee, who, once it is approved, will forward to the HREC.
Adverse Effects & unforeseen events
The Endeavour HREC requires immediate notification of all reported adverse effects. Please complete the Adverse Effects report Form and forward to the HREC secretary through .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Changes/amendments to protocol & Research personnel
The Endeavour HREC requires notification of any changes in protocol, the research team, methodology, or extensions to the dates.
Annual and Completion reports
The Endeavour HREC requires annual feedback on current proposals and a final report upon completion of the project. These reports will be requested for submission prior to the second last meeting of the calendar year.

The Endeavour HREC require notification if, for whatever reason, a project is discontinued before completion.
