Services and Support

Student Services

At times studying, in addition to personal and work commitments, can be stressful. The Student Services team offers assistance with coping with the study load, assessment requirements and making the most of campus life.
Students are supported by the Student Services unit throughout their time studying with the College. Student Services representatives can be accessed by appointment or at open access sessions scheduled on each campus.

Study Skills

It is sometimes difficult or overwhelming to return to study, particularly after a long period of time. To help students transition back to a formal learning environment and to build success into their study journey, the College organises a series of free study skills workshops for students usually scheduled during orientation. These complimentary workshops enable students to meet with others they will be studying with and to refresh the skills required to undertake study including:

  • Wide reading in content areas
  • Plagiarism and its consequences
  • The academic grading system
  • Guidelines on assessment submission
  • Presenting written assessment tasks
  • Referencing academic work
  • Searching for information in libraries

A Study and Learning Guide is also available as an easy reference tool.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Students who self-identify as having language, literacy or numeracy difficulties are asked to attend an session. Students who are identified by academic or student services staff as having such difficulties will be offered a similar appraisal to assist them in meeting course requirements. This liaison service is in addition to the regular program of Study Skills during each semester to those students wishing to improve their study skills.

Tutoring Assistance

Some students who experience difficulty with study or who have a learning difficulty may require additional assistance to successfully complete their subjects. In such circumstances, lecturers will provide additional learning support, and tutoring assistance can be access through the Academic Team who will liaise with Student Services.

Counselling Services

The College believes strongly in supporting students in all aspects of study life. A special Student Assistance Program (SAP) can be accessed by all current students through the Student Services unit. The SAP provide access to a highly confidential counselling service for students.
