Musculoskeletal Therapy

Musculoskeletal Therapy is a relatively new discipline which uses a range of soft tissue techniques to manipulate muscles, fasciae and related soft tissues to relieve pain, dysfunction and promote recovery from disability. It is largely a 'hands-on' method of management based on detailed physical examination.

The Musculoskeletal Therapist has a high level of skill in assessment and diagnosis and a broad menu of treatment approaches.

Musculoskeletal Therapists use manual techniques, such as massage, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, trigger point therapy, cupping, dry needling and neuromuscular techniques. Other modalities of treatment include, postural alignment, hot and cold therapies, corrective exercise, lifestyle advice, and proprioceptive and supportive taping.

Musculoskeletal therapy students are our most advanced students in their modality, being in the 3rd and final year of their course. This clinic is designed to attract clients presenting with acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain, dysfunction or disability. The treatment time will be divided between history taking and physical assessment to isolate affected areas for treatment. The treatment will involve applying a range of techniques to the target soft tissues and joints.
